Event: Effective Communication Workshop
Topic: This workshop is for carers of a person impacted by mental illness.

Basic communicationn skills, barriers to effective communication, the role of assertiveness and applying communications skills specifically to situations wen someone is experiencing mental illness.

Event: Art Therapy Group
Topic: Art Therapy is a facilitated process of self-exploration through creativity. Anyone can benefit. The focus is on the process not the product.

Art Making is a direct and holistic mode of expression. It engages the sense and shifts the focus away from the rational mind, allowing you to connect more fully with the physical emotional and spiritual aspects of yourself and the unconscious patterns that drive you.

Where: MIFWA Midland Office, Level 3, 9 The Avenue, Midland
When: A six week group commencing on 11 August and then weekly each Friday

Event: Healthy Simple Cooking with Confidence
Topic: Come and join the group and learn about cooking healthy, nutritious meals with a minimum of fuss. We will discuss budgets, what to store in your pantry to help provide healthy meals without spending a lot of money.

Event: My Recovery - Snapshots Program
Topic: A 2 session peer education program designed and delivered by family member/friends of someone with a mental illness. It assists family member/carers to maintain their own wellness and support the recovery of their family member/friend with a mental illness.

Topic: A 12 session peer education program designed and delivered by family member/friends of someone with a mental illness. It assists family member/carers to maintain their own wellness and support the recovery of their family member/friend with a mental illness.

Topics:

  • Up-to-date and accurate information about mental illnesses, treatment and support options
  • New ideas, problem-solving skills and confidence to cope with the impact of mental illness and support recovery
  • An opportunity to share experiences with other who understand
  • Broader ongoing sources of support and information

Topic: Informal coffee mornings give carers a chance to socialise with other carers and carer peer workers in a relaxed atmosphere. Have a break from your caring role and meet some new friends!

Description: Open to carers, friends and family of people affect by mental illness, people with a lived experience of mental illness and local service providers.

 

Event: Grow Group for Carers, Midland
Topic: ‘“Is someone in your life troubled with a mental health issue?”
When: The 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month

Description: GROW for Carers is for those who care in different ways for people with mental health issues. They meet together to share experiences, gain support, increase coping skills, knowledge and understanding through the use of the GROW program.

Event: Walking for Wellness - Caring for Wheatbelt Carers
Where: Bernard Park, at the metal horse.
When: 3rd Thursday of every month.
Time: 10.00 am -11.30 am
Suitable for: Carers of a loved one who lives with mental illness and lives in the Wheatbelt region, who would like to come along and enjoy a leisurely walk with other carers.
