Schizophrenia Awareness Week 2021 Recap

Thank you to everyone who participated in Schizophrenia Awareness Week 2021, which ran from 23 to 29 May.

In conjunction with fellow MiNetworks Partners across Australia, we aimed to highlight the voice of lived experience to support connection, to provide practical suggestions about how people can discover better mental health, and to let people living with schizophrenia know that they can reach out for support if they need it by contacting us.

Throughout the week, MIFWA hosted free Mental Health First Aid training, a CHIME workshop online, a two-day Daring Greatly workshop in Northam, and our annual Community Event. We also participated in a nationwide social media campaign.

It was great to see so many people involved, embracing the overall theme of ‘Discover Better Mental Health, and having important conversations face to face and online around acceptance, stigma and self-stigma, contribution, and the importance of peer support.

Even though the week is over, let’s continue the conversation and continue to bust the myths around schizophrenia that perpetuate stigma and discrimination.
