Discover the power of peer support and recovery with our face-to-face group. This group is designed, developed and evaluated by Wellways Australia, and is delivered by MIFWA.

What is My Recovery?

My Recovery is a supportive recovery group for individuals living with mental health issues. It is a peer support and education program facilitated by individuals with lived experience of mental illness who have undergone training to become Peer Facilitators.

The program takes a non-clinical, holistic approach to mental health recovery, complementing existing clinical support. My Recovery aligns with the principles of recovery as a human rights imperative, emphasising choice, empowerment, and self-determination.

What can you expect?

In My Recovery, you can expect a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants support and learn from each other. The sessions begin with an outline and introduction of the day’s topics, followed by weekly check-ins, short journaling sessions, group discussions related to the session’s topic, and lunch breaks. The program aims to create a safe space where power is shared, valuing the wisdom and expertise of every individual in the room.

Although all participants are encouraged to participate, they have the option to pass or listen if they don’t feel comfortable talking.

Who should attend?

My Recovery is designed for anyone living with mental health issues seeking peer support and wanting to take proactive steps towards their recovery. The program welcomes individuals at any stage of their recovery journey, and it complements existing clinical support. Whether you are seeking to maintain personal well-being or live a more meaningful life within your community, My Recovery can provide valuable support and guidance.

An evidence-based program

My Recovery draws upon the principles and research of the consumer survivor movement, aligning with the concept of recovery as a human rights imperative. The program’s peer-to-peer support model is evidence-based and rooted in the belief that individuals have the expertise and wisdom to support one another in their recovery journeys. By creating a community-focused approach, My Recovery empowers participants to take ownership of their recovery and make informed choices.

How does My Recovery differ from My Recovery snapshot?

The main difference between My Recovery and My Recovery snapshot lies in the duration and scope of the programs. My Recovery runs for 10 sessions, providing a comprehensive journey of support and education. On the other hand, My Recovery snapshot is a condensed version that consists of 4 sessions. It is designed to give participants an overview of the full My Recovery program, making it suitable for individuals who have time constraints or are considering joining the longer group.
