At MIFWA, supporting people living with mental health challenges means more than delivering quality services, it also means protecting the personal information entrusted to us every day.
Over the past 18 months, MIFWA has undertaken a significant program of work to strengthen our cyber security practices and improve the protection of participant, carer and employee information. This work has included an independent cyber security assessment, the implementation of improved security controls and the adoption of the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s Essential Eight framework.
We are pleased to share that MIFWA achieved Essential Eight compliance on 1 March 2026, representing an important milestone in our commitment to good governance, risk management and information security.
These improvements have strengthened our ability to:
- Protect sensitive information from cyber threats.
- Reduce the likelihood of unauthorised access to systems and data.
- Improve organisational resilience and business continuity.
- Support safe and reliable service delivery for participants and their families. While cyber security is often thought of as a technical issue, it is ultimately about people. Every improvement we make helps ensure that personal information is treated with care, confidentiality and respect.
This achievement reflects a true organisational effort, involving staff across multiple teams working together with our technology partners to strengthen systems, improve security awareness and embed better practices across the organisation.
As MIFWA continues to grow and evolve, we remain committed to maintaining strong cyber security practices and ensuring that the trust placed in us by participants, carers, employees, donors and stakeholders is protected.
Because at MIFWA, safeguarding information is another way we support the wellbeing and confidence of the people we serve.
