What is advocacy?
Advocacy means helping a person have their voice heard.
Advocacy can help you:
- speak up about what is important to you
- make choices
- understand information
- protect your rights
- overcome barriers that make things harder
How can an advocate help?
An advocate can:
- help you share your views
- help you ask questions
- help you raise concerns or complaints
- attend meetings with you
- support communication between you and MIFWA
Your choice
You can choose your own advocate or support person.
Your advocate should support what you want.
They should not make decisions for you or override your choices.
You can change your advocate at any time.
How does MIFWA support advocacy?
We can:
- provide information about advocacy services
- help you contact advocacy organisations if you want this
- support you to access independent advocacy if you would like help
We support access to independent advocacy when there are concerns about violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation or discrimination.
