What is abuse?
Abuse is when a person is harmed or treated badly.
Abuse can include:
- physical abuse
- emotional abuse
- financial abuse
- neglect
- exploitation
- bullying, harassment or discrimination
How do we help keep people safe?
We will:
- provide safe and respectful services
- train workers to recognise and respond to abuse
- supervise workers, volunteers and students
- respond to complaints and concerns
- support advocacy and consumer rights
What happens if abuse is suspected?
We take concerns about abuse or neglect seriously.
If we believe someone may be at risk, we will respond and take action to help keep people safe.
Privacy and safety
We respect your privacy and confidentiality.
Sometimes safety must come first.
Information may need to be shared with the right people or authorities to protect someone from harm.
Restrictive practices
We are committed to reducing and eliminating restrictive practices.
Restrictive practices should only be used as a last resort and for the shortest possible time.
They should only be used to prevent harm to a person or other people.
Questions, feedback or concerns
If you feel unsafe or worried, tell a MIFWA worker or someone you trust.
You can ask questions, raise concerns or ask for help.
