“We don’t have to be afraid — we are capable of helping.”
At the end of July, 15 community members in Corrigin came together for Standard Mental Health First Aid with trainer Mark Davies — an incredible turnout made possible through our ongoing partnership with CBH Group, and local support from the 1922 & You Community Hub.
Participants spent two days building practical skills to recognise and respond to signs of mental health challenges, support someone in crisis, and reduce stigma in their community.
Here’s what they told us they learnt:
- ALGEE – a clear, practical framework for offering help
- How to listen before reacting
- We can support others – we just need the tools
- Language matters
- Seeing things from others’ perspectives
When asked what they want to see more of in Corrigin, the message was strong:
- Better access to help
- More training and local support
- Resources, information, and fast pathways to care
- Support for alcohol and drug use
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Corrigin, and to our our partners and our Regional Program Manager Janine Defontaine who all made it possible.
