MIFWA, Holyoake and Wheatbelt Suicide Prevention Project have partnered to bring educational training to the wheatbelt.

These trainings are free to community members. We have safeTALK which is a 3-hour workshop, and accredited trainings Youth Mental Health First Aid and Standard Mental Health First Aid. All our training all catered for.

They are designed to give you the skills, knowledge, tools and confidence to support yourself and others who are experiencing mental health challenges.

Please join us and learn how we can de-stigmatise and talk about issues that affect us all and how we can support people that might be struggling with their mental health.

safeTALK Workshop

safeTALK is a half-day alertness workshop that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper.

Since its development in 2006, safeTALK has been used in over 20 countries around the world, and more than 200 selectable video vignettes have been produced to tailor the program’s audio-visual component for diverse audiences. safeTALK-trained helpers are an important part of suicide-safer communities, working alongside intervention resources to identify and avert suicide risks.

safeTALK is a powerful experience. You can expect to feel challenged, empowered, and hopeful.

Standard Mental Health First Aid Course

The Standard Mental Health First Aid course is based on the International Mental Health First Aid Guidelines. These guidelines were developed using consensus of mental health consumers, carers and professionals from English-speaking developed countries.

In this course, you will learn:

  • how to assist someone who is developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis (so not just suicide awareness)
  • the signs and symptoms of various mental health challenges
  • where and how to get help, and
  • what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.

Course participants receive a copy of the Standard Mental Health First Aid Manual to keep as well as a Certificate of Completion.

Participants are eligible to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Course

Learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of the common mental health challenges experienced by young people, where and how to get help, what sort of help research says are most effective, and how to provide mental health first aid to a young person in a crisis situation.

Topics will include depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, substance use, suicide and more.

Course participants receive a copy of the Youth Mental Health First Aid Manual to keep as well as a Certificate of Completion.

Participants are eligible to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider.
